Cold Leads to Clogged Culverts
(Lamoine) — J.R. Anderson has been one busy guy this winter—and
not just in Lamoine. Anderson, of Franklin, runs a pressure washing company,
and is the area specialist when it comes to thawing frozen road culverts.
The combination of a very wet fall, very little snow in the winter months,
and a bitter cold snap in January was perfect for making ice dams in the
road culverts.
The most noticeable problem came on Route 204 (Partridge Cove Road) by
Needles Eye Road. The Maine DOT has to fix that problem, and by the time
they got to it, the road was badly rutted and quite dangerous to drive
on at anything but low speed. Local Road culvert freezings were scattered
town wide.
