(Lamoine) — The owners of a half interest in a piece of land that became
tax acquired by the town in December have purchased the town’s half interest
for the back taxes, fees and interest. Eugene and Doris DesIsles paid $800.00
for the land and now have full control of the property. The heirs of a distant
relative declined to pay the 2001/02 property taxes and allowed their half interest
to automatically foreclose to the town.
Because of the unique nature of the ownership, after the Board of Selectmen
offered the property back to the former owner (and they declined), the offer
was extended to the DesIsles family. They declined an offer to buy the half
interest for half the assessed value, and the Selectmen agreed to sell it for
the back taxes and fees in early March. The property will be back on the tax
rolls for 2004.
