(Lamoine) — Selectmen opted to extend by a little more than two years
the recycling transportation contract with Pine Tree Waste. The current contract
expired in March, and the expiration snuck up on both the company and the
town. The Selectmen agreed to a price increase requested by Pine Tree to extend
the contract. Even with the increased costs to haul recycling to Bangor, the
contract should just about squeeze in under budget for 2004/05. Increased
revenues from the sale of recyclable newsprint, plastics, cans and glass help
to offset the contract. The new contract will expire at the same time the
trash hauling contract runs out in 2006.
