Conservation Commission Offers Bins

The Conservation Commission is excited about the opportunity to make composting “Earth Machines” available to Lamoiners at discount prices. The plan is to offer these backyard compost bins for purchase this spring for about $35 each if we order them in bulk, in lots of 20. Bar Harbor has had excellent success with similar bins, the Green Cone, which sold there for $40 each. If the bins are placed in a sunny spot they will perk all winter. In addition to providing rich nutrients for the garden, keeping organic waste out of our trash can save the Town considerable money. The average household produces 300-500 lbs of organic waste each year. Every five Lamoine households that compost could save the Town about $50 each year. If you are interested in purchasing an Earth Machine, call Town Office to leave your name and phone number. Someone from the Conservation Commission will call you. Orders may be taken through the first week of May.
