(Lamoine) — Lamoine’s Conservation Commission has developed
a proposed ordinance to regulate activities at Lamoine’s public
park areas. The town has two formal parks, Lamoine Beach and Bloomfield
Park at Blunt’s Pond, and owns a small portion of land along Marlboro
Beach. The proposed ordinance was presented to the Planning Board which
will review the draft before submitting it to the Board of Selectmen for
inclusion on a town meeting warrant.
The proposal would restore the Parks Commission which was dissolved several
years ago. For many years parks commissioners were elected by the town
meeting. The proposed ordinance would make the commission an appointed
board which would meet at least quarterly and report its agenda and findings
to the Board of Selectmen.
Under the proposal, activities that would normally draw at least 25-people
to park areas would require a special use permit from the parks commission.
Erection of temporary structures such as tents would also require a permit
from the parks commission, as would any fires outside of the cooking grill
facilities provided at Lamoine Beach.
The ordinance would also allow the parks commission to decide how to enforce
the park rules using appropriate town staff.
Again, the measure is just in draft form at this point and will require
a lot of discussion before making it to the town meeting level.
