Fire Department Open House A Hit

(Lamoine) — Despite a last minute date change, Lamoine’s Fire Department open house seemed to be a hit with those who attended. Fire Department members grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, and David & Albert Herrick cooked up a seafood stew to serve to visitors.
Department members gave tours of the fire station and went over the various pieces of rescue equipment and fire truck apparatus with visitors.
The goal of the open house was to acquaint the public with what the fire department does in town. Many visitors brought their children who got to sit in the fire trucks and try on turnout gear. One of the highlights was a visit by Arthur Vidito, one of the original founders of the fire department in 1948. Mr. Vidito is Lamoine’s oldest resident. Another highlight was the return to the fire station by lifetime member Albert Herrick who was convalescing from surgery and a rehabilitation center stay. His presence lifted the spirits of firefighters.
The open house was also a good opportunity to give the fire station a good cleaning. Chief Skip Smith, polished up the trucks first thing in the morning while others swept out the station and meeting areas. A good time was had by all.
