(Lamoine) — Newly elected Selectman Perry Fowler was not broken-hearted
that he did not win the bid to sweep Lamoine’s roads this spring.
In fact, Mr. Fowler didn’t submit a bid this year, after several
years of performing the exhausting and dirty work.
George Crawford submitted this year’s bid at $55/hour and was selected
by the Board to perform the sweeping project (his son Glenn abstained
from the vote). Mr. Crawford quickly swept the roads during the month
of May and won good compliments on the efficiency of the operation and
the quality of the sweeping job.
Mr. Crawford noted that many of the shoulders have started to build up
from the winter sand pushed to the sides of the road over the years. The
Road Commissioner will look at shoulder shaping this summer.
