To Aid School Teams |
(Lamoine) — The Lamoine Consolidated School has a new group of volunteer fundraisers to help organized sports remain a positive experience for the town’s young people. The Sports Boosters group will raise money to help supplement the School’s budget and provide moral support to all the LCS sports programs. The group is made up of parents, coaches, family and friends. The mission statement developed at the initial meetings is to assist the Lamoine Consolidated School coaching staff and Athletic Director so they can focus on training the teams; to recognize and encourage all LCS sports activities; to promote a healthy school spirit; to encourage student participation; and to encourage and promote sportsmanship and team work. The group also elected Patty Heath as President and Secretary, Chrystine Emeigh as Vice-President, and Glenn Grant as Treasurer. President Patty Heath says anyone is welcome to join in, and she can be contacted at 667-2957 or PattyHeath@adelphia.net. The boosters plan to hold a bottle drive on Saturday, July 10th from
9AM to Noon. One of the first undertakings was a cleanup project at the
athletic fields behind the school. Mrs. Heath said the Boy Scouts and
leaders Jo & Don Cooper, Doug Jones and Ted Duffy were instrumental
in the efforts. The group repaired the areas behind the baseball and softball
dugouts with gravel, reshaped the pitching mound on the baseball field,
and removed several trees that blew down across the Cross-Country trail
that runs along the perimeter of the ballfields. Many others from the
community and the sports teams helped with the cleanup and enjoyed some
home grilled food.
