Boston Post Cane to Move On

(Lamoine) — The passing of Arthur Vidito in Florida in December means the Boston Post Cane will be awarded to the town's oldest citizen again. Mr. Vidito held the cane for several years before his death at the age of 97. A search of the voting records finds the next in line for the cane is Jennie Neleski, who's also 97-years old. Arrangements are being made to turn over custody of the cane to Mrs. Neleski in the near future. Mr. Vidito was an original founding member of the Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department in 1948.

Lamoine Natives Serving Their Nation

(Lamoine) - Mill Road resident Nancy Jones said it would be nice to report on where some young folks from Lamoine serving in the military are stationed. She even did the research for us! Thanks Nancy.

Chad Smart —The son of Earl & Carolyn Smart is stationed aboard the USS Enterprise in Norfolk, VA with the United States Navy. Chad did make it home for Christmas.

Nathaniel Jordan — Jim & Jeannine Carney's son is with the US Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton in California. He and his dad drove cross county in the fall to get him back to the base with a car.

Jason Richter —Phil & Karen Richter's son is with the US Marine Corps in the reconnaissance unit at Camp Lejune North Carolina.

Nicole Bonney — Ed & Diane Bonney's daughter is stationed with the United States Coast Guard in San Francisco, CA.

Kyle Glass — Rosemary Glass's son is stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas.

If you know of a young Lamoiner serving with the military, please e-mail us (town@lamoine-me.gov). We'd be glad to mail them a complimentary copy of the Lamoine Quarterly.

Lamoine Well Lit for Chirstmas

(Lamoine) — The holiday season seems to be brighter in Lamoine than in many other communities. Numerous homes boasted large light displays in 2005—the biggest being Richard King, Inc. on Douglas Highway. Other homes keeping the power grid active included the Paul Cirard residence on Mill Road, the Calvin Smith/Mima Grindle home on Asa's Lane, the Stacey Curtis home just up the road from that, the Thomas McIntire house on Lamoine Beach Road, the Earl Smart and Buck Page residences across from the King display, and Jim & Betty Anderson's home on Jordan River Road.

The Lamoine Cable TV channel featured a 15-minute montage of the displays around town, and the website sported many still shots of the displays. (see more lights)

A wreath shaped like a boat anchor adorned the Duym residence on Marlboro Beach Rd.

Lamoine Team Wins Soccer Crown

(Lamoine) — The Lamoine Consolidated School soccer team won the Union 92 Championship to complete an undefeated season. Lamoine beat Surry in the championship contest in October under the lights at the Ellsworth High School soccer field.

Lamoine scored 67 goals during the 10 regular season games, and allowed just 9 total goals during the season as the team which featured a mix of experienced and younger players pretty much dominated the action in most contests. The Union 92 final was recorded and telecast the next day on Lamoine Government channel 7. (see Soccer Web Page)

School To Submit Building Application

(Lamoine) — School officials say they planned to submit an application to the state's revolving renovation fund to perform needed upgrades at the Lamoine School. Union 92 Business manager David Bridgham said the firm hired to prepare the application had hoped to submit by the end of 2005 or early in 2006. If approved repairs could be made to the electrical, plumbing, heating and other vital needs at the school with a no interest loan.

History Returns to Historical Society

Eagle Scout candidate Ben Rudolph completed his project to display the bell from the Marlboro Chapel in the fall of 2005. The bell had been stored in back of the building, and now sits on a piece of granite with the building's sign mounted around it.

Town Adopts NIMS

(Lamoine) - Selectmen approved a resolve to adopt the National Incident Management System to respond to emergency situations. The adoption means the town may be eligible for federal disaster aid. Many town officials have already received incident management training required under the NIMS system, but more training is expected.
