Vets Articles To Hang In Town Hall (Lamoine) - The Ellsworth American has been running an article each week profiling veterans who served in World War II. Assistant Town Clerk Kathy DeFusco noticed that many of the articles featured Lamoine residents. She came up with a great idea—have the reprints of the articles posted at the town hall. We've found six so far and the newspaper has matted and laminated them. Once suitable frames are found they'll hang in an appropriate location inside the town hall. |

Patriotic Tree Planted (Lamoine) - The Ellsworth Garden Club planted a new flowering crab tree on the north side of the Lamoine Town Hall in April. Jay Barnes of the Garden Club says the project was designed to help beautify areas that directly relate to patriotism, and what better place than where people cast their votes. The tree replaces a previous flowering crab that did not survive. |

Vital Statistics (Lamoine) — The town lost a true gem in June. Leurene Hodgkins of Lamoine Beach Road passed away four days short of her 96th birthday. She served as town treasurer for several years, and was married to long-time Selectman Alan Hodgkins before he died. Her current husband, Harlan Hodgkins, said they were able to enjoy traveling all around the back roads of Maine in their 9-years together. Frances Stickney of Ford Lane died on May 18th at the age of 90. She was one of the seamstresses who helped sew the 125th anniversary quilt that hangs at the town hall. Floyd's wife Robin is the school librarian and serves on the town's budget committee. Thomas Warner of North Yarmouth died in Lamoine on May 4th following a traffic accident. We've also received word of the passing of former Lamoine residents Larry Noddin and Gladys Vigent in the past few months. Noddin died in February in Topsham. He was a former member of the Board of Assessors. Mrs. Vigent lived in the house next to Lamoine Beach in the summer. Both Vigent and Noddin were in their 90's. We have several new residents to welcome. Charlotte Ellen Tatara was born on April 14th at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth. Jozlyn Marie Bradley was also born in Ellsworth, arriving May 3rd. Jayson Charles King was born May 8th at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, and Hailey Alexis Alley was born on June 3rd at MDI Hospital in Bar Harbor. Just two marriages to report for the quarterly. Benefactor Sought (Lamoine) - Susan Christie wished to thank whoever was so thoughtful to leave a package of gifts last Christmas at her family's home. Susan is battling breast cancer and said the gifts were especially touching. She writes “ as a registered nurse for the past 23 years, this journey after the diagnosis of breast cancer has been a humbling one.
