Administrative Assistant's Report
For Meeting of November 15, 2012
It is a feeling of relief now that Election Day has passed here at the town hall. The first snowfall of the season has arrived, and things appear to be operating smoothly in town. Next week will be pretty busy for meetings, one a night Monday through Thursday. The Budget Committee meets on Monday for its first session – the Administration and Solid Waste Budgets are on their agenda.
Minutes of November 1, 2012 – Please review the minutes and make written corrections if possible.
Expenditure Warrant 10 – This will be a large one with the bulk of the expense being the RSU 24 bill. Interesting to note, the total cost for election clerks this year was $290 compared to $498 for the 2010 election. I mentioned the temporary voter booths – total cost to make 3-booths was $57.69 between Home Depot and EBS. The new front door is on the warrant – that should be installed sometime next week. Kermit repaired one of the legs on the kiosk at Blunt's Pond – someone backed into it. Richard McMullen will be placing large rocks strategically in that area to try to prevent that from happening again.
Cash & Budget Report – We're pretty much where we should be at this time of year in most of the budgets. Excise is starting to lag a bit, which is expected.
Foreclosure Notice List – I'll be sending foreclosure notices next week and will print an up to date list on Thursday with any luck.
Meeting with Fire Chief – Skip asked to speak with you to bring you up to date on the fire department's plan for the newest truck purchase. I'll have a separate memo for you and the budget committee on that plan.
Vault Shelving – The company that designed the movable shelf system has submitted an updated proposal with 2- moving shelves and one permanent mount shelf instead. The first plan (2 permanent, 3 moving) was going to be about $13,000. This plan is around $8,700 which is closer to the $8,000 budget. This would indeed give us a lot more storage space in the vault.
I took a bunch of tax commitment books to U-Maine last month for binding. Turns out they can only do the 8.5” x 11” books – the large one would have to go to New Hampshire. I'll get a price on that.
Election Night – We had 870-people cast ballots on Election Day, and another 193 absentee votes were cast prior to Election Day. Things went very well here. I've done up a separate memo on this.
Budget Committee – Don't forget the Budget Committee meets on Monday at 6:30 PM.
Emergency Operations Plan – I've copied off the EOP for your packets and reading pleasure. Let's set a date to review this – I'm thinking the 2 nd meeting in January?
Town Meeting Timing – The board wanted to discuss this at a future date when all the board was present. This is the future date. Town meeting is planned for March 12 & 13, 2012.
RSU Withdrawal & Deed - The Withdrawal Committee is meeting Monday at 6:30 PM somewhere. I'm sure Gary can fill us in on what's going on. I spoke with Tony regarding the deed and he's working on that for several communities. I explained there was no longer a rush on it.
Other – Jo had mentioned a review of the Code Enforcement Officer's position under the probationary contract. This may or may not be in executive session – I'd like to do that on December 6 th .
That's all for now. We'll see you Thursday, if not sooner.
