Administrative Assistant to the Board of Selectmen

Stu Marckoon
Report for Meeting of May 16, 2018

Happy May!  Happy Sunshine!  Happy Warmer Weather!   It might be the paint fumes from the freshly painted back door in here, but it’s relatively jubilant in the town office.

Remember, your meeting will be right after the special school budget/ordinance change town meeting Wednesday night.  You do NOT have a meeting on the 17th!

The agenda is relatively light.

Minutes – Please look over the minutes from May 3rd.  Written changes are easiest for me.

Expenditure Warrant 24 – as of this writing (Thursday), the warrant is pretty small.  School warrants will be added next week which will increase it.  On the town side, we’ve got the sweeping bill from George Crawford, and the paving setup bill from Roger Picard.  Those are the biggest bills thus far.

The warrant will be periodically updated on the website, and printed for the meeting.

Cash & Budget Reports – This too will be posted and updated periodically on the website and printed for the meeting.  We’re looking pretty strong with just a month and a half left in the fiscal year.  On the revenue side, we are already well above budget on excise tax and bank interest.   Expenditures are about where they should be.

Foreclosed Property – A separate memo is in your packet on this matter.

Appointments – We have three people interested in the Board of Appeals opening(s).  They’ve all been notified of meeting dates and indicated to me they will attend.  I also have a person interested in Budget Committee (I approached her and she said yes) and she’s planning to attend.

The following appointments expire on June 30th:

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, TREASURER, DEPUTY TOWN CLERK, DEPUTY TAX COLLECTOR, EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR, GENERAL ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATOR, ADDRESSING COORDINATOR, DEPUTY FIRE WARDEN

2018

Road Work – I’ve made a spreadsheet of all the road needs I’ve identified, and it’s in your packet.  Roger Picard says we can expect a contract from Thibodeau for paving, possibly by this meeting.

Traffic Light – King Electric diagnosed the problem with the traffic light signs at the Trenton intersection. I’ve e-mailed the picture to MDOT for advice on how to fix it. A copy is in your packet.

Marlboro Beach Celebration – Plans are coming together for a celebration on June 23, 2018.   I’ve put the latest memo in your packet.

Special Town Meeting Warrant – June 12, 2018 – I hope to have the validation referendum warrant ready to sign for posting.  I will double check with the Superintendent of Schools to make sure last year’s wording is still valid.

Heating Fuel Bid – The price of fuel has been skyrocketing.  I did not send out the bids yet this spring, hoping that things might calm down.  Any thoughts?

Vacation – My wife has requested that we take vacation from July 30 to August 3, October 29 through November 2, and December 24 through 31.  I have 8-days to carry forward from the current fiscal year to use prior to the end of August, and 4-weeks for the coming fiscal year, so I guess I’d kind of like to join her during the time off.

Meeting Dates – The 1st meeting in June will begin at 6PM with an executive session for an employee review and the Hodgkins Scholarship Committee.  That might not be a bad idea for the next meeting as well (for employee reviews).

It would be good to set dates for July and August.

I don’t have any items for executive session at this time.
