Report for Meeting of November 21, 2019
 
 

 

Winter sure came in a hurry to Downeast Maine (and apparently much of the nation).  At least the furnace works well in here (it got cleaned last week and they’re going to install a condensate treatment device on Monday). 

 

The agenda looks busy, and some of it might be.  I am writing this on November 14th.  I will be at a Town & City Management Association Ambassadors meeting tomorrow, so packets will be done this afternoon (I hope).

 

Minutes, November 7, 2019 Please review them as they were complex at times.  I hope I captured everything accurately.  If not, please let me know and write corrections.

 

Expenditure Warrant 12 – This shouldn’t be too bad.  The school warrants are still reasonable (no tuition bills yet), so we should not have to move anything from investments into checking.   The warrant will be posted on the website and updated periodically and printed for the meeting.

 

Cash & Budget Reports – We’re still in very good shape.  The report will be updated on the website and printed for Thursday.

 

Audit FY 2019 – It’s done, and sooner than I had expected.  A copy is with your packet.  We look very strong at the end of the fiscal year.  I’ve made the adjusting entries and will be sending some adjustments to First Wealth Management to have the accounts match up to the fund balances.

 

Code Enforcement Officer Meeting – Rebecca Albright will be in attendance to discuss the matters which were brought up last meeting.   I’ll re-copy her memo for the packet.

 

Resignations – There is an e-mail resignation from Patti Haslam from the Rec Committee and an oral resignation from Connie Bender from the Budget Committee.  Letters to both will be ready to sign. 

 

We have at least one application for the Facilities Maintenance Director position.  Let’s talk about the process to interview the candidate and possibly hiring someone.   I will have a letter of recommendation for Rick Gallegos to take to Texas with him as well.

 

And….we need people for the Budget Committee.  Any thoughts?  I have e-mailed someone and await an answer.

 

Roads/Parks – I sent out requests for bids on trimming Buttermilk and Walker Roads.  They are due back on 11/18.  I hope to have a recommendation to award on Thursday.

 

The kiosk at Bloomfield Park sustained damage in the last big wind storm on November 1st.  A tree also fell across one leg of the entrance.  I cut that up last Saturday to the point that the road is passable, but my chainsaw blade was pretty dull by the end of that, so the big log is still beside the road, and the tree is still down over the kiosk.  There is some e-mail in the packet about the estimated repair costs from the guy who build it – Kermit Theall.   My recommendation is that the insurance deductible fund be used to fund the repairs.

 

Planning Board / Town Attorney Use – You asked that this be on the next agenda at the last meeting.  The Town Attorney will be here for the next item.  I suspect Chairman Holt will also be here.

 

Executive Session – Dan Pileggi will be here to meet briefly with you on the lawsuit filed last week and what strategy the Selectmen wish to follow.

 

Budget Workshop – After I get the expenditure warrant caught up to date, the next task will be budget development.  That’ll be worked on next week and you’ll have a lot of the budgets to discuss prior to the Budget Committee meeting on November 25th.

 

REMEMBER – YOU ARE INVITED TO THE LEAGUE OF TOWNS ANNUAL (RESCHEDULED FROM OCTOBER 17TH) ELECTED OFFICIALS MEETING BEFORE THIS MEETING.  IT BEGINS AT 5PM AT THE SOMESVILLE FIRE STATION.
