Board of Assessors

Minutes - October 11, 2016


The meeting came to order at 8:14 AM at the Lamoine Town Hall

Present were:  Assessors Terry Towne, Michael Jordan, Jane Fowler

Abatement Appeal – The board discussed the possible outcomes of the Rhyne appeal that is currently before the Hancock County Commissioners.  The Commissioners will make their decision on November 1, 2016 at their public meeting.

State Valuation – No action was required after a review of the proposed 2017 State Valuation from Maine Revenue Services.

Acreage – Map 1 Lot 75 – Michael moved to supply RJD Appraisal a survey of Map 1 Lot 75 (John W. Goodwin, Jr.) and make any necessary corrections to the acreage being assessed.  Terry 2nd.  Vote in favor was unanimous.

Combining Lots – Map 14 – The board discussed several requests to combine lots in the Meadow Point area.  Terry will compose a letter to Maine Municipal Association asking whether contiguous lots in a subdivision can be combined.  The Board postponed action on three requests.

Valuation – Map 3 Lot 20 – The board will prepare a letter for the current lot owner (Mr. Bailey) providing an explanation of the building value.

Minutes – The board, by acclamation, approved the following sets of minutes:

Municipal Valuation Return – The Board scheduled to meet on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 9:00 AM to work on the Municipal Valuation Return.

Revaluation – The Board discussed whether it is time to schedule a revaluation, and sending a letter to the budget committee in regard to that discussion.

Board chair meeting – Jane is unable to attend the meeting on October 20, 2016 with the Board of Selectmen.  Terry will meet in her place.

Next Meeting(s) – The next regular meeting of the Board of Assessors will take place on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 8:00 AM.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:45 AM.
