Lamoine Budget Committee Minutes

October 30, 2006

Chairman Henry Ashmore called the meeting to order at 7:02 PM

Present were: Budget Committee members Linda Feury , Henry Ashmore, Hubene Brodie , Reggie McDevitt, Joe Young, Robin Veysey ; Secretary Stu Marckoon, Selectmen Richard Fennelly Jr., Cynthia Donaldson, Brett Jones, Jo Cooper, Asst. Town Clerk Kathy DeFusco

Minutes of October 16, 2006 Joe moved to approve the minutes as presented. Reggie 2nd . Vote in favor was unanimous.

Road Budget Stu said he had not talked with Road Commissioner Dennis Ford in detail about the budget, but did speak to him by phone about some things. He said the rest is a best guess.

There were discussions/questions about the following items in the road budget:

Solid Waste Budget Stu said he had good figures to work with and the budget was pretty easy to put together. There was a discussion on how the increase in the PERC weights was calculated, and the contract with PERC. The committee asked Stu to check the dump monitoring expenditures from the previous years. Selectman Fennelly suggested that a toilet system/holding tank be explored similar to Lamoine Beach in order to cut the costs.

Other Matters

Clerk/Assistant Clerk Pay Analysis Stu said he got the figures from the Maine Municipal Association study. The budget committee noted there was nothing about years of experience, and its difficult to compare. Henry said it looks like the town is in the ballpark in terms of pay. There was a brief discussion of the comparison criteria.

The budget committee said it would like to see the balances in the reserve fund.

Next Meeting The next meeting is November 13, 2006, and will include the public safety and parks budget.

Stu noted it was very busy at the town office this week due to tax collections and absentee balloting.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:22 PM.
