Lamoine Budget Committee

Minutes of December 1, 2008

Chairman Henry Ashmore called the meeting to order at 7:02 PM

Present were: Budget Committee members Reggie McDevitt, Merle Bragdon, Henry Ashmore, Hubene Brodie, Robin Veysey; Administrative Assistant Stu Marckoon, Deputy Code Enforcement Officer Michael Jordan , Selectmen Brett Jones, Cynthia Donaldson, and Fire Chief George “Skip” Smith.

Minutes of November 10, 2008 – Robin & Hubene pointed out 1 minor typographical error. Reggie moved to approve the minutes with that correction. Robin 2 nd . Vote in favor was 5-0.

BUDGET REVIEWS

No changes were needed to the order on the printed agenda as the reviews began.

Code Enforcement – There was a brief discussion about the cost of mileage.

Roads – The committee discussed the following line items:

Fire Department – The committee reviewed the budget with Chief Smith. Among the items discussed:

Major Road Improvements - There was a discussion about which portion of Buttermilk Road is proposed to be repaved. Stu said it would be from Jordan River Road for approximately 1-mile. Reggie asked about a guardrail on Shore Road . Stu said he doubted that would happen.

Solid Waste – There was a brief discussion about the cell phone and bulky waste line items

Cable TV – Stu reported the Cable TV Committee has recommended that a machine be purchased to play back recorded programs automatically. Merle noted that this line is not funded by taxpayers, but by the franchise fee for cable TV subscribers. There was a discussion about the TV Channel allocated to the school, and what the effect a Regional School Unit would have on that hookup.

Administration Revisited – Stu reported the Selectmen are recommending a small raise for the elected assessors. He noted that with the addition of the rest of the budgets, the FICA/Medicare lines have increased.

Next Meeting – The Social Services requests and the Parks Commission will be highlighted at the next meeting on December 15, 2008. Henry said he was unable to attend due to an important RSU meeting.

Fire Truck Reserve Revisited – The committee briefly discussed the fire truck reserve and how long to possibly finance a brush truck.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM
