Budget Committee

Minutes - January 5, 2016 (Draft, subject to correction)

Vice-Chair Merle Bragdon called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.

Present were: Budget Committee members Cece Ohmart, Connie Bender, Marion McDevitt, Merle Bragdon; Secretary Stu Marckoon.  Board chair Robin Veysey had phoned earlier in the day to say she would be unable to attend due to an illness.

Minutes – December 14, 2015 – Connie moved to approve the minutes as written.  Marion 2nd. Vote in favor was 4-0.

Budget Adjustments – Merle noted that four budget areas have proposed adjustments, including Administration phone, snow plowing, cemetery maintenance, and ballot clerk pay.   Stu explained that the town has added a dedicated fax line to replace a line previously paid for by the Secretary of State’s Office which has been disconnected.  He said the Selectmen have started a contract extension negotiation with Richard McMullen and the figure revised in the draft budget reflects that discussion.  He said Forest Hill Cemetery had submitted an estimate to repair two veterans’ graves and that is now included in the cemetery maintenance lines.  He said he recalculated the ballot clerk pay at $10/hour, $12.50/hour and $15/hour.  He said the latest draft budget reflects $10/hour.

Merle moved to propose to the Board of Selectmen that the ballot clerks be compensated $15/hour.  Connie 2nd.  Vote in favor was 3-0 (McDevitt abstained).
