Chair Bill Butler Called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM
Present were: Bill Butler, Chris Tadema-Wielandt, Gregory Spring, Stu Marckoon
Meeting Notes – November 9, 2011 – Those present reviewed the notes – no changes were suggested.
Staffing – Stu reported that operations manager Kimberly Grindle had resigned recently. Bill said that he'd spoken with her about not having the time to do the job. Both Bill and Greg said they did not have time to staff the position regularly, but would be interested on a sporadic basis. Stu said he would speak with the Selectmen about staffing the position in September.
Stu said he spoke with Carol Korty and some Lamoine Community Arts members were interested in operating the equipment, and some helped out with a school hearing a few months back.
Bill said Ben Speed at Hancock County Technical Center felt sure he could find some students to help out when school reopens in September. Bill said he would also talk with the principal at the Lamoine School about student interest in TV productions.
Equipment – Stu said the new camera produces a far superior picture to the older consumer model cameras. He suggested getting a 2 nd one. Bill suggested recording onto tape while using the camera system in addition to the DVD in case of DVD failure. The committee recommended a 2 nd camera and a wireless lavaliere microphone.
Stu reported the hard drive on the Nexus system failed. He said he has purchased a new hard drive which is recording tonight's program and should work. There was discussion about having an automatic backup system called RAID with two hard drives, and that was recommended to purchase.
Stu reported that Brett Jones has recommended replacing the Website/E-mail server as the present one is extremely old. There was no objection
Stu said the PC used for the power point program is also extremely old and often binds up. The committee recommended getting an inexpensive PC from Wal-Mart.
Lamoine Community Arts Play – Stu reported that the community arts group wanted to know if there was interest in recording a play and possibly telecasting it in the fall. There was discussion about being sure that copyright permission was obtained. The group felt there was no reason the play couldn't be recorded, but telecast might be an issue. Stu said he would get back to Barbara Bland to let her know.
Use of CTV Funds – Stu said the Selectmen have inquired about limited use of the Cable TV fund in partnership with Time Warner and home/subdivison owners to string cable into unserved areas of town. There was discussion about limiting the amount of funding that would be available, the number of occasions per year allowed, and having a tight policy to be reviewed by an attorney. There was no objection to exploring this idea further. Greg reported that his subdivision is still unserved, and he's using a wireless internet system that works well. Stu said he would try to contact Shelley Winchenbach to start pursuing the idea.
Next Meeting – The group will tentatively meet again on October 2, 2012 at 6PM prior to the Planning Board meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:35 PM.
