Meeting Notes - July 31, 2013 (Draft, subject to correction)
The meeting came to order at 6:04 PM
Present were: Bill Butler, Merle Bragdon, Stu Marckoon
Officers: Stu nominated Bill as chair, Merle 2nd . Vote in favor was 3-0.
Notes from October 4, 2012 – No changes were offered to the minutes as drafted.
Operational Notes – Stu reported that Time Warner has moved the public channel away from analog channel 7 and it's now on digital channel 121-111, or for those with a digital box, channel 5.
He noted that operations manager Kendall Davis has completed editing a 20-minute video on the Flat Top 5K race and it is now being televised periodically.
Programming Ideas - Stu said Kendall is working on a video about the transfer station and there is some footage about the Habitat for Humanity House which has some distorted audio and needs a lot more footage.
Merle suggested streaming the programming on the town's website. Bill said he would consult with Brett Jones to figure out how to do that. Stu said he'd like to do a video on the fire department. Merle said that would be timely with the pending arrival of a new truck.
Bill said he'd like to do something closer to Christmas with holiday lights around town.
Personnel Recruitment – Bill noted the committee has not succeeded in attracting more folks to operate the Cable TV equipment. Discussion included meeting with the new principal at the Lamoine School and contacting the guidance departments at Ellsworth and MDI High Schools to offer working on the CTV system as community service. Merle said it would be good if some of the meetings were not automated, especially the Planning Board. There was some discussion about placing a TV monitor in the meeting room.
Finance Status – Stu said there is just under $40,000 in the cable TV fund. There was further discussion about placing a monitor in the meeting room and using some of that fund for streaming. Merle said he was philosophically opposed to using the fund to help fund expansion of the cable system in town – noting that most people want the service for high speed internet, and the money comes from the TV programming subscribers. Stu said maybe it's time to offer to pay people to be the tech operators at meetings such as the planning board.
Merle said he'd like to see some sort of roll-out type of box built for events at the school such as town meeting. Discussion included discussing the idea with the new principal. There was also discussion about what it would take to activate the 2nd PEG channel which has some infrastructure at the school.
Next Meeting – The chair will call the next meeting – the group agreed it would be good to meet quarterly, and possibly next in October.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:29 PM
