Henry Ashmore called the meeting to order at 6:35 PM
Present were: Patricia Heath, Henry Ashmore, Bill Butler, Merle Bragdon, Nicholas Pappas, Stu Marckoon
Chair – Henry asked if someone else would be interested in chairing the committee. Bill asked what it entailed. Henry explained running and scheduling the meetings. Bill offered to serve. Henry nominated Bill as chair, Patty 2nd . Vote in favor was unanimous.
Meeting Notes – Henry moved to approve the notes from the previous meeting (September 18, 2006) as written. Nick 2nd . Vote in favor was unanimous.
Equipment Purchases/Needs – Stu reported that he got a very nice tripod for about $80 at Best Buy. Bill said it works much better. Stu said he also purchased a DVD recorder at Best Buy, but it does not produce an RF signal, so the setup has to come on the preview channel instead. He said that cost about $200.
The committee discussed a 3 rd camera for the meeting room. Bill said a wireless camera and receiver available at Wal-Mart costs about $180. There was discussion about mounting the existing cameras lower, and it was agreed this would have to be a weekend project.
Bill suggested a microphone processor for remote events to help with sound in the school gym setting. He said that would cost about $130. The group also felt a set of headphones to monitor audio in the field would be helpful, about $25 at Radio Shack.
Budget – Merle said the town might want to consider playing some role in assisting with helping provide cable TV wiring for areas not currently wired. Henry said Time Warner could do that themselves. A lengthy discussion followed on surveys, franchise fees helping offset the cost, and the basic philosophy of helping Time Warner wire the town. Stu said he would attend a meeting with Time Warner in November and will ask about this issue.
There was also a discussion about encouraging the Planning Board to encourage subdivision developers to provide underground CTV wiring for lots as part of the subdivision plan.
A lengthy discussion followed on how to wire up the school for cable TV telecasts.
Merle moved to keep the budget the same as the current fiscal year for now. Bill 2nd . Further discussion followed about wiring up the school or waiting until the building project moves forward. It was suggested that we contact JMAC, the company that wired the town hall, to see what they suggest. Bill said he would look into a portable setup similar to what Ellsworth High School uses. Vote in favor of the budget was unanimous.
Next meeting – The committee agreed to meet at the discretion of the chair. The present CTV policies would be discussed.
Volunteers – Stu said he spoke with Mr. James at the Lamoine School but had no luck with volunteers to run the gear. Bill said he spoke with the New England School of Communications and there might be some people next semester. Nick said he spoke with some students at MDI High, and some expressed interest but no follow up. Bill said he would run a free public service announcement ad on WNSX radio.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:35 PM
