Help clean-up Lamoine's beautiful shoreline

Saturday, October 2 from 9am Noon

DATE: Saturday October 2nd

TIME: 9:00 a.m. Noon

WHERE: Boat launch at Lamoine State Park

WHO: Open to the public. Anyone can attend but should be able to traverse rugged seaweed covered rocks. Less mobile participants will be assigned to beach areas.

WHAT: Volunteers will receive trash bags and data sheets to collect trash and record the type and amount of debris found. Not only does the coast get tidied up, but the data is also reported back to the Ocean Conservancy, helping their experts to pinpoint the sources of marine debris and devise solutions.

WHAT TO BRING : Appropriate cold weather clothing, work gloves, hiking shoes and/or waterproof boots (in some places there is a lot of mud). A cell phone is handy for emergencies.

No registration necessary. Call the State Park with questions or if the weather is questionable at 667-4778 (there's no rain date).

ABOUT MAINE COAST WEEK: Maine Coast Week, September 25 - October 2, 2010, offering Mainers an opportunity to protect our valuable coastline, is part of the Ocean Conservancy's 25th Annual International Coastal Cleanup. In partnership with organizations and individuals across the globe, Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup engages people to remove trash and debris from the world's beaches and waterways, identify the sources of debris, and change the behaviors that cause marine debris in the first place.
