Lamoine Conservation Commission

Minutes - April 11, 2007

Present were Fred Stocking, Bob Pulver, Lynda Tadema-Wielandt, Donna Thorburn from the Commission.

Attendees: Kathy DeFusco, Lucia Michielli, Nancy Pochan, Joan Strout.

The meeting began at 7:07 p.m.

 

•  Minutes of the 3/14/07 meeting were approved and seconded by a vote of 4 to 0 with minor changes.

•  Recycling: Nancy Pochan reported that we had sold 26 compost bins and 6 scrap buckets. She asked for people to volunteer to be at the Transfer Station the day the bins are distributed. Four people volunteered. Donna Thorburn thanked Lucia M. for the Lamoine Quarterly article on recycling. She also thanked Nancy Pochan for doing the coordination and ordering the bins and buckets.

•  No Freshwater Initiative Update available.

•  No Planning Board or Selectfolk concerns no one in attendance.

•  Concerns of those attending Joan Strout mentioned her concerns about dragging issues on the Skillings River and Raccoon Cove. Donna Thorburn spoke with Rob Eaton to see if he could speak to us about his involvement with the Taunton Bay Marine Resources study.

Donna reported that the History Channel had had a program on global warming and she had the DVD. Fred S. received it and will try to view it.

Fred read Donna Theall's email which indicated her concerns regarding some instances where residents are doing things contrary to our ordinances. She wondered if the Planning Board or CEO were aware of these infractions.

•  Fred was pleased to announce the US Supreme Court had recognized global warming as a threat to our environment. A Global Climate Report that comes out every four years indicated that draughts and sea levels rises have accelerated tremendously. Comment that storms stay around here longer and are more frequent now.

•  The Lamoine cleanup will be on May 19 th . The talk by Jim Wilfong is on May 9 th . There will be a work session at 4 p.m. on April 25 at Town Hall to discuss posters, location, title, etc.

•  Summer activities Do we want to have a joint function with the Lamoine Historical Society and the Parks Commission sometime in August?

Rob Eaton talk regarding dragging and intertidal issues for July 11th ?
