Members Absent :

Alternate Members Absent:

Others in Attendance:
School Board’s Facilities Subcommittee
(SBFS) members Brett Jones, Katrina Kane, Michael Brann
Meeting was convened at the Lamoine Town Hall by Linda
Penkalski at 7:03 PM.
Minutes from the August 8,
2018 meeting were approved as submitted.
Topics Discussed:
1.
Solar power for Town’s electricity usage:
A.
Willingness of School Board to collaborate in siting a
solar project for the Town
B.
Approximate date estimated for south roof slope
replacement
C.
Plans for addition to school
The SBFS members were very positive about the overall
proposal but had several questions, issues and scheduling concerns. The roof may
be near its end of life and if solar panels are installed and need to be removed
for new roof installation, that will add additional expense to the project
Another concern is the current placement of several existing vents on the
roof that may impede the most effective placement of the panels. Some of the
questions to be addressed include the impact on the panel system if it had to be
“offline” for several months at a time if there were school maintenance projects
occurring and also, if the orientation of the existing roofline were to change.
The overall outcome was to keep the lines of communications open between the
Conservation Commission and the SBFS and regroup in a year or so. The LCC will
take the lead on the project going forward to resolve issues, address questions
from SBFS and coordinating future communications.
2.
Blunts Pond Field Day Recap
There were 28 visitors at the 1st field day
and the kids in attendance had a lot of fun with the scavenger hunt, swimming in
the pond and exploring the park. Thanks go out to the Lamoine Historical Society
for their participation and exhibit of the history of the pond and surrounding
area and to Katherine Whiting for her presentation on invasive plant species. It
was taken under advisement to determine the feasibility of additional field
days, how often they should occur and if there is a different time of year to
have them.
3.
