The Official Website of Lamoine's Town Government
Minutes - March 28, 2015 (Draft, subject to correction)
The meeting came to order at 8:58 a.m. at the Lamoine Town Office.
Present were: Greg Stone, Tim Jordan and Becky Mason.
Proposed Rec Program Offerings: Becky made a motion to offer Karate as a Lamoine Rec Program. Greg 2nd. Vote in favor was 3-0. (2 members were absent)
We would like to offer Soccer, Rec Basketball, Peewee Cheering, Karate (fall/spring), Baseball/Softball, Gym Activities & Outdoor Activities, Volleyball, Kickball, Field Hockey, and Ultimate Frisbee. Greg will submit a request of these program offerings to the Selectmen for approval.
It was discussed that our goal for most rec programs will be to compete in the Y-League. If we do not have the numbers, we can refer on to the Y or offer an intramural program. To ensure placement, we will work on starting programs a couple of weeks before the Y offers them.
There was a discussion of offering a basketball program for the younger children as the basketball backboard will adjust down to 8 feet. Tim said a parent asked about offering pick-up games for adults on the weekends.
Coaches & Referees: We will advertise for coaches on the Rec Facebook page. We will begin advertising the program and need for coaches 6-8 weeks in advance. We will look to high school students first for referees. We will contact the local high schools for interest. We can also ask the Lamoine AD and Shane Lowell for a list of referees they have used.
Budgets: As of now, we do not have any funds. We will look to charge for future programs. We will do an inventory of what we have for equipment and what we will need for future programs. Storage will be an issue in the future.
Fields/Ellsworth Football League: We will find out who does field maintenance, what is currently being done, what is the yearly cost? Greg will ask Stu.
Duane Crawford would like to discuss field use for the Ellsworth Football League with Lamoine Rec. We will invite him to a meeting after we do some legwork. Greg will talk to Katrina Kane, Superintendent, about putting field use/maintenance on the School Board Meeting agenda. In addition, we would like to have someone from the Lamoine Rec attend the meeting.
Other Matters for Public Discussion: The Selectmen authorized the creation of two alternate members for the Lamoine Rec Committee to assist in having a quorum for meetings and with legwork.
We would like to send a survey and volunteer inquiry out to the students. Greg will check with Stu if we need to have the survey approved by the Selectmen before anything gets sent out.
Tim attended the Selectmen’s meeting on 3/27/15 and gave them an update on what we have been offering.
Next Meeting: The committee agreed to meet again on April 18, 2015.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:15.
Becky Mason, Secretary, Lamoine Rec Committee
