Minutes - June 20, 2015 (Draft, subject to correction)
The meeting came to order at 9:03 a.m. at the Lamoine Town Office.
Present were: Recreation Committee Members Greg Stone, Tim Jordan, Elie Khoury, Becky Mason and Jason Trenholm; Kristin Fuller Kimball
Minutes of May 30, 2015 – Greg Stone moved to approve minutes as written. Becky 2nd. Vote in favor was 5-0.
Slow Ride Sunday – Greg set the date and time for 7/19/15 from 11-4, with a rain date of 7/26/15. There will be guided tours at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The plan is to have this once a month. Registration will be at the Lamoine Consolidated School prior to the ride. All routes will start from the school. Greg plans to have a map of bike routes available at registration. Becky will make up a flyer for the event and post on the FB page.
Greg spoke to the Selectmen about the process of conducting the Slow Ride in Lamoine. He also spoke to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department who instructed him to call HCSD to notify the day of and they will let him know who is covering the area that day. Greg plans to have traffic calming & directional signs on the road at the designated routes and major intersections of the routes. Greg volunteered to make the signs. Becky volunteered to design and order a 2X5 Banner that will be placed at the intersection before the Town Hall.
Greg will speak to Cadillac Mountain Sports and/or other local businesses with bike rentals to ask for sponsorship and/or donations (money, bike, bike gear). He plans to contact the local news outlets to have an article written about the Slow Ride Sunday. He will ask the Lamoine State Park for free ride-ins.
Elie questioned what safety precautions were in place. There was a discussion about this. Greg’s number will be given to riders in the event of an emergency.
Review Current Programs – Greg reported only a few people showed up for the Family Fun Day. He will continue this over the next few weeks. He brought extra activities in the event there was not enough people to play softball. Jason and Tim stated the Pick Up Basketball games were successful. They will continue through July 4th, which is the last day the gym can be used. There is a possibility the outdoor court can be used if it gets paved and lined. Becky stated karate is over and Nate will be bringing in registrations and money to Stu. The total brought in was $745.
Fall Recreation Soccer registration date stands. There was a discussion on who is interested in coaching. Becky reported Liz, Amanda Frost, and Brandon Joy would like to coach again. It was discussed that there should be a head coach and an assistant coach, in the event there is no referee, one could ref while the other could concentrate on coaching. Greg recommended there be a Rec Soccer Program Director, preferably not a coach. He made motion for Tim Jordan to be the director of Rec Soccer. Becky 2nd. Vote in favor was 5-0.
Plan Regular Meeting Schedule – We will try to meet the 2nd Saturday of the month (7/11, 8/8, 9/12). Same time and location.
Other Matters for Public Discussion – Elie suggested the Lamoine Rec Committee acquire shirts for visibility and advertisement purposes. Becky volunteered to design shirts.
Next Meeting – The committee agreed to meet again on July 11, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at the Lamoine Town Hall.
