Minutes - September 12, 2015 (DRaft, subject to correction)
The meeting came to order at 9:05 a.m. at the Lamoine Town Office.
Present were: Greg Stone, Elie Khoury, Becky Mason, Elizabeth Stanley, Jason Trenholm, Heidi Garrison, Patti Haslam, and Sharon Smythe
Comprehensive Town Plan: Greg discussed that we need to come up with a survey to see what people are interested in. things to consider are: 1. Existing programs – expansion, do we need more programs? 2. Facilities – Existing (school field/gymnasium, trails, etc.) and what is in the community we are not aware of, how do we make the school a more community base? 3. What are the core adult and youth activities? What could be added in the future? Some examples given were ice skating, snowmobiling, and snow shoeing & cross-country skiing. Patti suggested we develop a survey that is informational (informing of what is currently available) while asking what would the community like to see.
Elie volunteered to begin developing a survey. Greg stated he will contact the chair of the Comprehensive Committee.
Soccer Program Report: We have about 50 participants who field 4 Rec Soccer teams. Liz reported there is one U6 program with 16 kids. She said she might have to form 2 teams. There is two U8 teams and one U11 team. There is talk of forming two U11 teams as well. Liz reported one of the coaches requested more soccer balls. Greg made motion to approve purchase of more soccer balls. Liz 2nd. Vote in favor was 5-0.
Liz informed the committee that she received an email from Shane Lowell, DEFY Youth Sports Director, indicating the Lamoine Recreation Soccer program can only allow residents of Lamoine to participate, not residents of other towns. Greg stated he will call Shane and arrange a meeting to discuss this.
Cheering: Will be discussed at the next meeting.
Adult Basketball: Jason reported this program is up and running. This meets on Sundays from 1-4 p.m. There was not much of a turn out but he will continue it.
Rec Basketball: Will be discussed at the next meeting.
Another Slow Ride: We will have another Slow Ride Sunday on October 18th from 11-4.
Finances: We briefly looked at the Status Report. We will look at this further next meeting.
