Minutes of October 22, 2014 (Draft, subject to correction)
Committee member Brett Jones called the meeting to order at 6:07 PM
Present were: Committee members Merle Bragdon, Brett Jones; Administrative Assistant Stu Marckoon, and Cable TV Operations Manager Kendall Davis.
Minutes – September 24, 2014 – Merle moved to approve the minutes of September 24, 2014. Brett 2nd.
School – CTV Hookup – Brett reported that the school committee discussed this at their last meeting and favored moving forward with the hardware. He said the school committee did not discuss involving the technology committee with other technical matters. He said the school, at some point, will have to figure how to make the TV channel part of the curriculum.
Merle suggesting having the school assess what needs there are for the TV equipment and develop a budget. Brett said the board voted to approve putting in the equipment. He said this committee should come up with a proposal. Merle said perhaps a consultant would help. Stu said he could contact the outfit the town hall has done business with lately. A brief discussion followed on live vs. recorded programming.
Cable TV Subscribers – The committee reviewed the report from Time Warner, showing between 386 and 440 subscribers per month.
Franchise Agreement – The committee briefly reviewed the boilerplate franchise agreement supplied by Time Warner and agreed to take it home and discuss at the next meeting. Stu said there are 3-years left on the current agreement, which gives the committee a chance to discuss things with townspeople. There was a brief discussion about the density requirements. It was suggested that questions could be included in a Comprehensive Planning survey that will go out in the coming months.
E-mail for town officials – Brett reported that the town got a reply to its inquiry to Ellsworth about handling e-mail accounts. After much contemplative discussion, Brett said he could try to work on another in-house system on a server.
Back Up Server – Brett reported that units similar to the Dell currently in use are very inexpensive. He suggested picking up 2 or 3. Merle noted the Selectmen had authorized the purchase.
Volunteers – Stu reported there is a student from MDI High School who has shown interest in volunteering, but is not likely a long term person at this point.
Live Stream/On Demand – Brett said he found the response from Ellsworth interesting. He suggested checking with Leightronix about how to use that system to stream programming on the Internet. There was a discussion about loading programs onto You Tube and it was suggested to give it a try.
Next Meeting Date – It was agreed to let chairman Bill Butler call the next meeting time.
Programming – Kendall reported he was hoping to produce something about snow plowing and safety with Richard McMullen. Stu reported the Lamoine Community Arts group has requested that their dress rehearsal performance on November 6, 2014 be recorded. Merle noted there were some camera issues when he did that the last time.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:55 PM.
Respectfully submitted,Stu Marckoon, Adm. Asst. to the Selectmen
