Copy of memo read from Mr. Charles McDonald on the Brick program, thanking the committee on our efforts for the memorial. Jo will create a thank you to send.
Reggie had spoke to Fred Wieninger about the base of memorial being put in, possibly before spring. Discussion on what exactly was the work Jay was going to do, he was under the impression it was only donating the excavation of the monument area, not doing the concrete work. Jay will call Fred to confirm the conversation of work to be done by him and what foundation work was included in the price given to us. Jay's feeling because of the time of year it is better to do the work in the spring.
The committee had voted 4-3 for “Pink granite” for the memorial benches versus “Gray granite”.
A copy of the balance sheet of donations shown to the committee, from the Brick and general donations and funding from Town Meeting.
Memo given to committee from Stu Marckoon, who had run into Jay Sutter. Mr. Sutter had worked on the Tremont Memorial. He told us The Cole Foundation would match funding dollar for dollar if the school children in the area were involved. He also offered us help in anyway. Marion will contact him.
Marion reported on Brick forms given out on latest town elections. Committee thanked Marion for her efforts and several residents staying on Election Day to hand out to voters.
The committee discussed more ways of funding the project which include, mailing a donation letter in January using tax list, Marion to contact school to get a memo and copy of brick order form to go home with the children on Fridays in their school letter, Jay suggested having sub sandwich orders for Super Bowl Sunday, Marion to check with Val Perkins about getting the school children involved, Reggie will contact the Cole Museum, Jo suggested having a Big Band dance at the school, bean supper, another notice in the Quarterly, contacting the local TV news stations, newspaper, radio, contacting the local American Legion and VFW. The members had decided who would contact the different organization and businesses. Results will be discussed at the next meeting from the committee members.
Reggie brought up an idea of using red and gray bricks for walkway of memorial. Committee asked Reggie to bring samples from Fred Wieninger of both color bricks and pink to see color combination and have at our next meeting for discussion and vote.
I gave the committee a bill from Wieninger Monument 's for 1/3 of balance due on monument of $7120.00 and was voted 6-0, to present to the Selectmen for payment at their next meeting. Fred also had faxed a copy of the six emblems to be done in brass of the services. The committee voted to use the emblems and I would contact Fred to give our okay.
