Minutes of January 21, 2009 (Draft, subject to revision)
Members present: Jo Cooper, Kathy De Fusco, Jay Fowler, Marion and Walt McFarland.
Jo called meeting to order at 715pm, minutes from October 15, 2008 meeting were read and approved 5-0.
Jay reports we are getting a donation from Wal-Mart, and we meet with Wal-Mart and the press to accept check. He received a bill from Alan Doll reference the concrete work done for memorial, amount $975.00.
The committee voted 5-0 to pay 2 bills pending, Fred Wieninger for batch 7 & 8 lettering of bricks for $ 875.00 and Alan Doll, concrete work for memorial for $975.00. We will give to Stu to present to Selectmen to pay.
Marion and Walt stated the Christmas tree sale at their business did not pan out to bring in a donation.
We discussed funding for the future. Jo mentioned a Bike Ride event. We thought of selling bricks and doing a 50/50 raffle on February 12, 2009. Marion wanted to know if we could have finished bricks at Town meeting to show the public. I reported the 50/50 raffle was a great success, we split with the winner $743.50. The Christmas wreath sale brought in $657.00, another great success. We sold 15 DVD's. Reggie sent out letters to local businesses and to date, RF Jordan, responded with a check $250.00 and Kim Murphy donated $50.00. Edna Coyne donated her proceeds of $60.00 from the craft show held at the Lamoine School .
I asked Jo about the committee receiving donations from the bottle recycling program, we should share the rewards with other volunteer organizations. Bill Fennelly has already approached the Selectmen about this. I will follow up to see how we can get on the list to receive. Bill also requested a brick from the proceeds for John Holdsworth and we agreed. I will get a letter of thank ready for Karen Richter who helped us with the Christmas tree sale.
Walt brought to the table the idea of going to the Selectmen and asking them to bring to the Town to forgive the loan balance as of Town Meeting in April, 2009. We discussed and agreed 5-0 and stated continuing to sell bricks to help fund the project.
Next meeting scheduled for February 18, 2009. Meeting adjourned at 815 pm.
