Lamoine Veterans Memorial Committee

Minutes - September 20, 2006

The committee met on Wednesday, September 20th, 2006 at 7 pm @ Lamoine School.

Present were: Jo Cooper, Reggie McDevitt, Ken Fredette, Marion McFarland, Walt McFarland and Kathy De Fusco.

Ken presented a print out from Sorrento “History of the Creation of the Sorrento War Memorial” and Marion has given the committee pictures taken from her visit. I made a copy of Sorrento 's dedication of their memorial that was printed in the Ellsworth American. All available to see in the committee's files.

Ken and Jo's feeling to the committee is we need to start with definite locations for the memorial, this will dictate the size and cost. Sorrento had letter writing campaigns asking for donations and we discussed the need to approach the Town for monetary support. Jo had spoke to Sara Stevens, 942-6935 of Congressman Mike Michaud office about our memorial and there maybe a possibility of a grant. Ken also states if the Town incurs any legal fees for purchases, he will donate his services.

Reggie had met with several stone companies and feelings were they could not give any figures until we had definite sizes and stone type. He has given the committee another drawing of proposed monument with height and width. He also had a discussion with Ronnie of Fresh Water Stone, Orland. We thought there is a possibility to get stones from areas in Lamoine. I called and spoke to Julie, 546-2356 of Wieninger Monuments, in Milbridge, and she will send a basic package for us to review.

The committee discussed locations again. Jo thought in front of the flag at Town Hall and she will speak to Perry about “Butler Pit” side. The Grange was brought up and they would be willing, but their fate is undecided and the fire department has a water storage tank on the property. Members of the committee are still looking into monuments in the surrounding area for more ideas. I called Winter Harbor Town Office, 963-2235 and asked they send us any paperwork they had on getting their monument started. I will visit the town to get pictures for us.

Next meeting date, October 18th , 2006 , 7 pm @ Town Hall.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy De Fusco, Secretary
