Lamoine VFD Awarded Outstanding Emergency Call of the Year

The Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department was the co-recipient of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital's Emergency Call of the Year Award in 2007. The Department was awarded for it's response to an overturned sailboat off Lamoine State Park on June 24, 2007 (see web page) in which 3 people were rescued from the cold waters of Frenchman Bay. On hand to receive the plaque were Lt. Brett Jones, Lt. David Herrick and Lt. Michael Jordan. Jones skippered the LVFD rescue boat, Herrick, who is also Lamoine's Harbor Master, took his lobster boat to meet the rescue boat, and Jordan's son Matthew was on board the rescue boat. Between the three and a large crew on shore, all three people on board the overturned sailboat were successfuly picked up from the water and taken to a waiting ambulance.

County Ambulance of Ellsworth was the other recipient of the Outstanding Emergency Call for their response to a fatal accident in North Ellsworth.
