Lamoine Fire Department Call

November 25, 2007

Lamoine Firefighters were called to the scene of a vehicle in the water off Lamoine Beach. A visitor to the beach spotted the GMC Yukon in the water shortly after 3:30 PM. It's not known how long the vehicle had been in the water.

LVFD launched the rescue boat with Lt. Brett Jones and Lt. Jon Harris aboard from Lamoine State Park. A private skiff with Harbor Master/FD Lt. David Herrick and Lt. Michael Jordan also got underway from Lamoine Beach. It was determined there was no one inside the vehicle, and the effort turned into a mission to remove the vehicle from the water before the tide completely submerged it.

Maine State Trooper Jessica Shorey is investigating. She said the vehicle, registered to a Clamshell Alley resident, was reported stolen earlier in the day. There are no suspects in the theft.

A wrecker from Auto Buff was called to the scene. Extra cable was brought to the scene to reach the vehicle and begin the arduous process of pulling out the SUV. Lt. Jordan assisted the wrecker with his personal vehicle.
