Lamoine Fire Department Call

October 27, 2007

Lamoine VFD was called to the scene of a two vehicle accident on Needles Eye Road on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at approximately 5:30 PM. Upon arrival, rescue crews found one young man in the driver's seat with serious injuries. Another man who had been in the passenger's seat was ambulatory. LVFD personnel monitored the driver's health until County Ambulance personnel arrived. Rescue Truck 403 was at the scene when the ambulance crew requested that the roof and a door of the white car (at right) be removed to assist with getting the driver out of the vehicle. LVFD crews used the Holmatro rescue cutter on board the truck to extricated the victim.
Maine State Police trooper Greg Mitchell is investigating the crash. Witnesses indicated that the driver of the white car was traveling east on Needles Eye Road at a high rate of speed and hit a pickup truck head on. The pickup was engaged in pulling a SUV from the mud at the side of Needles Eye Road. Several vehicles had apparently been engaged in an activity known as "mudding" when the SUV's driver got that vehicle stuck. The pickup truck was nearly stationary in the road at the time of the crash. Police are investigating if speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. The driver of the small car was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, the passenger transported by ambulance to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital.
