Fire Call July 24, 2005

Lamoine Fire Department was called to assist the Ellsworth Fire Department with a structure fire at 47 Foster Street in Ellsworth. Firefighters Jim Carney, Brett Jones, Kermit Theall, Stu Marckoon and Ed Farnsworth made up an interior attack crew using SCBA's (self-contained breathing apparatus), pulling down ceilings and putting foam enhanced water onto the burning surfaces. Other members of the department helped with exterior operations and changing airpacks. The call for assistance from Lamoine came at approximately 10:55 PM. Lamoine rolled Engine 401 and Tanker 404 to the scene, and 12 firefighters in all responded.
The State Fire Marshal's Office and Ellsworth Fire Department are investigating the fire's cause. After Lamoine was released and Ellsworth had packed up operations, the Ellsworth Department was called back to the scene when the fire flared up at about 3:00 AM. The man living at the home was not inside at the time of the fire and was not injured, nor were any firefighters. The home is a total loss. Nearby structures were evacuated on both calls, but none of the residents were injured and no surrounding buildings were damaged by the fire.
