The Flat Top 5K - April 1, 2006

Complete Race Results from Eden Athletics
The 1st ever Flat Top 5K race was held April 1, 2006 in memory of Bill Pinkham. The race started at Lamoine State Park, overlooking the town harbor where Bill was Harbor Master and at the entrance to the Marine Patrol Office - Bill's long time employer. (At left - runners start)
One of the race organizers, Tom Kirby, gives instructions to the more than 250 runners and walkers who showed up. What an amazing turnout!
Two other key organizers were Bill's long time running compatriot Robin Emery (left) and Connie Wallace (right), Bill's daughter.
Bill's wife Amelia (in blue sweatshirt) took part in the 5K walk from the State Park to the School. She was very tickled with how many of Bill's friends turned out for the race.
Walkers included Lamoine Teacher Tracy Willis and her dogs. Her husband Jim and daughter Sarah also participated.
And the winner is Erik McCarthy of Old Town
The top female finisher was Susannah Beck of Sedgiwck
Student beats teacher - Joey Luchini finishes just ahead of his cross country coach from Ellsworth High School, Andy Beardsley of Surry. Joey is now teaching in Guilford.
Being the first race of the season, runners checked their time as they cross the finish line.
Our thanks to the many sponsors, including Dead River, Cadillac Mountain Sports, The Swan Agency, Darling's Auto, Mt. Desert Spring Water and the Lamoine Parks Commission for putting on the race.
One of the neatest things about this race was that participants got to choose a T-shirt from Bill's extensive collection. Lamoine resident Eric Hartman looks over the choices.
