Lamoine Town Meeting Minutes

September 19, 2007

Town Clerk Jennifer Kovacs called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Approximately 38 voters were in attendance.

  1. To choose a moderator to preside over said meeting

Chris Tadema-Wielandt was nominated and 2nd . There were no other nominations. A secret ballot cast 23 votes in favor of Mr. Tadema-Wielandt, with none in opposition. Mr. Tadema-Wielandt took oath of Moderator given by Jennifer Kovacs.

  1. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen on behalf of the Town to lease to Portland cellular Partnership, d/b/a/ Verizon Wireless (“Verizon”) land adjacent to the former town landfill on town owned land at Tax Map 1 Lot 58, on such terms as the Selectmen deem advisable, for the erection of a communications tower.

Description: Verizon's preliminary proposal is to install a tower on a 100' x 100' leased lot owned by the Town. This agreement will allow co-location and eliminate a current “dead spot” for wireless reception in the Town of Lamoine , and provide rental payments to the Town of Lamoine

It was moved and 2nd to pass the article as written. Brief discussion followed on why this site was chosen. Hancock Fenton asked if other companies will want to put up towers. The motion passed by majority on a hand vote

  1. To see what sum the town will appropriate from the Capital Improvements Fund to add to those funds previously appropriated for the purpose of constructing a memorial to Veterans. ( The Selectmen recommend an additional $5,000 )

It was moved and 2nd to pass with the recommended amount. George Crawford asked what will be on the monument. Jo Cooper explained that the stone will say “Lamoine honors all who served their Country”. A brief discussion followed about handicap accessibility and parking issues. Jo Cooper answered as chair of Veterans Memorial Committee that Jay Fowler will donate the work for additional parking at the Town Office. The motion passed by an overwhelming majority on a hand vote. .

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned 7:28 PM on September 19, 2007.
