Annual Open Town Meeting

March 7, 2018

Weather Considerations

The Lamoine Annual Open Town Meeting will be held tonight (March 7, 2018).  The Citizen of the Year and Conservation awards will be presented beginning at 5:45 PM at the Lamoine School Gym.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning beginning at 6:00 PM.  It is believed that traveling to the town meeting will not be an issue, and after analyzing the hour by hour forecast, we believe that the town meeting can proceed and people leave and travel home safely, as the heaviest snow is not expected to hit until a few hours later.

By state statute, the ability to cancel a town meeting does not exist.  Once posted, the meeting is expected to start on time.  A voter may move to recess the meeting until a time certain.

Frankly, the town meeting warrant is relatively short, and we are not aware of any controversial items that should take a significant amount of time.  It is the belief that all the articles can be acted upon efficiently and the meeting should be adjourned before any significant snowfall.

The decision to attend a town meeting is up to the individual voter.  The Town of Lamoine certainly does not wish to place anyone in harm’s way.
