	Board of Assessors Minutes - July 8, 2020

The meeting came to order at 8:00 AM

Present were Assessors Jane Fowler, Brian Thomas and Terry Towne

Minutes – June 24, 2020 – Terry moved to approve the minutes.  All were in favor.

Question re: Tree Growth – Map 1 Lot 33A – A tree growth matter regarding Maine Coast Heritage Trust was O.K.

Abatement Map 13 Lot 31 – No further action was required from the Board at this time.

Correction to 2019 Property Tax Commitment – The Board signed affidavits to correct an error in the calculation of the 2019/20 property tax rate and the associated commitment papers.

Open Space Penalty – The Board agreed to communicate the potential penalty on Map 8 Lot 7 (Marcia Crabtree) should the land be withdrawn from open space.  The town had been contacted by a closing company in regard to this matter.   It was noted the parcel was partially placed into open space in 2019.  Prior to that designation, the entire parcel was assessed $110,100.  After the open space designation, the valuation fell to $88,200, a difference of $21,900.  Pursuant to 36 MRSA §1101-1121 to Board is to assess a penalty of 30%, resulting in a penalty of $6,570 if the property is withdrawn.

Memorandum – The Board discussed a possible memorandum to the Board of Selectmen in the future.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:40 AM.
