Fire Call 2007-12

Mutual Aid to Ellsworth Fire - Structure Fire

Lamoine VFD responded to Ellsworth on an automatic mutual aid call to 17 Davis Street. The building, a 3-story residence, was considered a total loss. Pictures are courtesy of the Penobscot Fire Department and Heather Fowler

At right, firefighter train hoses on the burning building that belonged to the Albert Varnum family.

Lamoine responded to the scene with Rescue Engine 403. At left, Asst. Chief Stu Marckoon dons turnout gear with the help of Lt. Mike Jordan (it was his gear, Stu's was at the cleaners). The Engine stood by the Ellsworth Fire Station for coverage. Ellsworth requested as many firefighters as possible with SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) qualification to help put out the fire.
Asst chief Marckoon and Trenton Asst. Chief Steve Corson manned the hose at the front of the building. Lt. John Smith of the LVFD also responded with SCBA and broke out the window from the top of a ground ladder where the hose stream is pointed. The fire spread so quickly that officers ordered firefighters to enter a defensive mode after the window was broken out.
